Motorline is a family run garage specialising in Classic Car Servicing, Storage and Restoration. We are based near Lewes in Sussex. We have full storage facilities. Many of our customers either own too many classic cars or simply do not have the facilities to safely store their cherished classic car under cover. As Motorline is based inland, but near the seaside towns of Brighton and Eastbourne, we have a number of customers who need to protect their cars from the corrosive salt air.
		Motorline near Lewes Sussex offer many different types of classic car storage, which can be tailored to individual needs. From ordinary outside storage for caravans and trailers to inside storage that can be adapted accordingly to include fully dehumidified, within a controlled environment. While the classic cars are in our care they can be looked after in many different ways, including permanent battery charging/top up. We also have a valeting service – we like, if possible, to clean all classic cars on arrival and when they leave.
One particular example of a classic car Motorline have in storage is a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow. This classic car has been used extensively in the past as a wedding car but, due to illness, the classic car has been left in storage for the last 18 months. On a regular basis (every 4 to 6 weeks) we run the engine up and drive the classic car up our private road in order to keep all mechanical parts on the move, having first checked levels, tyre pressures etc. We run the engine up to full temperature and check for leaks etc. We also try to make full use of the brakes, again checking for any signs of fluid leaks etc. On return the classic car is cleaned off and the covers refitted. Another example of a classic car in storage is an E Type Jaguar which lives in a dehumidified tent. This is used on a regular basis by the owner, so the ‘exercising’ is left entirely to him. Another useful facility that Motorline has is a ‘private road’ that can be used to ‘exercise’ some of our long term residents. Unless a classic car has been properly prepared for long storage it is not a good idea to leave it standing for many weeks at a time. Regular use, and running the engine up to full operating temperature is a very necessary part of looking after a classic car properly.
