| Classic Car Service
| The service of a classic car is very unlike the service of a modern car. Most modern cars are governed by their on board computers, whereas classic cars tend to be very much controlled by various electrical and mechanical components, all of which contribute to the reliability of the vehicle, the failure of any one of which could cause a breakdown. |

| | | When we service a classic car we first have a general look round at the over all condition of the vehicle, bodywork, tyres and such like. The first major work usually involves the engine. We ideally like to drain the old oil and then run an oil flush through the system to give it a thorough clean through. (Some owners are not keen on flushing and we always discuss things like this in advance). We replace the old filter and fill up with new oil to suit the particular engine – this also is a matter of choice for some customers and we are always happy to use their own oil. We then move on to a set routine which includes checking valve clearances (tappets), replacing contact sets, condensers, rotors, distributor caps, HT leads, plugs etc, if necessary. Finally when all reassembled we do an engine tune. We set the points and adjust the timing if necessary and finally tune the carburettor. Then we move on to the rest of the car checking and adjusting brakes, suspension, exhaust etc, etc, as necessary. | | | Recent routine services have included an MGB, Ford Cortina 1600E, Jaguar Mk2 and an E Type Jaguar. We even serviced a 1957 Pontiac Chieftain so as you can see our range is varied to say the least.
